Common Questions

How is Structural Medicine different from a massage?

  • Structural Medicine training is over 2,500 hours of hands-on work beginning on day 1; whereas the average massage school is only 560 hours in the U.S.
  • Structural Medicine works to physically and measurably change a client’s structure through their myofascial tissue.
  • Myofascial Length Testing is unique to Structural Medicine and allows for more targeted treatments. Structural Medicine also aims to treat specific ailments with a breadth of knowledge that includes Rolfing, Hellerwork, Anatomy Trains, Aston Patterning, Feldenkrais and more.

Will it hurt?

  • The most effective treatments are on the edge of intensity where the client can remain relaxed and breathing calmly while I treat the myofascial tissue at the desired depth. This can often feel very intense but should never bruise the client.
  • Clients can and should always ask me to reduce pressure if they find themselves tensing against my pressure or holding their breath.

Do you take insurance?

  • Most insurance companies reimburse some percentage of massage visits. I do not work within any particular insurance network nor do I bill directly with any insurance.

How many sessions will I need to feel the difference?

  • This work is often transformative providing changes that you can feel after the 1st session. However, lasting changes to a client’s structure does take time and repetition.

How often should I have a session?

  • We will develop a treatment plan that takes into account your structural needs and goals, schedule, and budget during your initial visit.

What is your cancellation policy?

  • More than 48 hours: no charge
  • Less than 48 hours notice: full cost of session is charged
  • I understand that emergencies come up and I will consider them on a case-by-case basis with you.
